SCP Mission, Goals, & History

The Senior Companion Program... is designed to provide supportive, individualized services to homebound persons while enriching the lives of the volunteers.

Senior Companions have provided assistance to adults with physical, emotional, or mental health limitations, most of whom are elderly.  These clients have difficult with daily tasks and Senior Companions help them retain their dignity and independence.  Senior Companions serve an average of twenty hours a week and receive hourly stipends.  They must be 60 or older and meet established income guidelines.  In addition to the stipend, they receive accident, personal liability, excess automobile insurance coverage; assistance with the cost of transportation; and annual physical examination; and recognition.

Senior Companions help homebound clients with socialization that includes home visits.  Some Senior Companions provide transportation that enable the clients to services like paying bills, buying groceries, and simply going for a short outing when permissible.
