Global Health Run/Walk

The first Global Health Run/Walk is being hosted by University of New Mexico medical students and will take place on Boston Hill in Silver City, New Mexico.  The run is scheduled for 7 am September 13,  2008. Grant county Senior Services is a honored sponsor, and the Silver City Senior Center will be the Event Headquarters.

About Us...

Grant County Senior Services, Inc. was founded in 1980 as a non-profit organization dedicated to serving the senior citizens of Grant County, NM.

 

Working hand-in-hand with other service agencies in the area, Grant County Senior Services Inc. provides a range of programs and services that meet the needs of older individuals in Grant County.

 

Services provided are not entitlements. Funded through Federal and State grants, the provision of services is contingent on community and private donations.

 

      Services provided by Grant County Senior Services Inc. include:

Senior Centers

Senior activity centers are located in Silver City, Santa Clara, Gila, and Mimbres. They provide a place to socialize and hold meetings or parties. Congregate lunches are served with reservations required and donations encouraged. Hurley Community Center serves as meal site for lunches prepared at Santa Clara Center. Each center prepares its own lunches and schedules its own activities and transportation. Contact the site manager at the Senior Center nearest you for more information.

 

In-Home Services - Home Care Provider

Home Care Provider services are provided free of charge to qualified homebound seniors. Coordinated through the Elder Rights Advocate, In-Home care is essential in allowing seniors to remain independent. Circumstances for needing a Home Care Provider range from a short-term illness or injury to permanent limitations that prevents a senior from being able to do their own housework, shopping and laundry.

 

In-Home Services - Meals-On-Wheels

Home delivered breakfasts and lunches are provided to persons 60 years and older who are homebound. Anyone meeting the criteria of being at-risk nutritionally, regardless of income, is eligible. Donations to the Meals on Wheels Program are encouraged.

  

Transportation

The senior center vans transport to and from the center, medical appointments, and shopping. Contact the Senior Center in your area.

 

Senior Companion Program

The Senior Companion Program matches low-income persons, 60 years and older, with homebound seniors citizens in Grant County. Volunteers receive a small tax-free stipend, and serve an average of 20 hours per week. Contact the Senior Companion Program Director for more information.

 

Foster Grandparent Program

The Foster Grandparent Program is a unique volunteer opportunity for senior citizens 60 years and older to help children and youth by assisting in the schools. Volunteers receive a small tax-free stipend for spending 20 hours a week in the classroom with children. Contact the FGP Director for more information.

 

RSVP Volunteers

The Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) helps people age 55 and above find service opportunities in Grant County. RSVP matches seniors’ personal interests and makes use of their skills at the places they serve. Contact the RSVP office for more information.

 

HIBAC Counselors - Health Insurance Benefits Assistance Corps

Educates and assists Medicare beneficiaries, those eligible for Medicare, and caregivers about Medicare, Medicaid, Medigap, prescription drug benefits, and other issues related to health insurance benefits.
 

New Mexico Senior Olympics

New Mexico Senior Olympics features over 90 events in 26 different sports in 130+ communities and 31 Local Game Sites across the state encouraging a healthy lifestyle in mature adults over 50.
