RSVP History, Vision and Mission

The RSVP program in Grant County New Mexico has over 250 active volunteers contributing over 40,000 hours of community service annually.  These volunteers work in a variety of settings, some with formal organizations such as:

We also encourage individual volunteer projects and will assist folks with visions they may have for a community service project or initiative.  Recently a group of our RSVP volunteers created the Conscious Aging Network of Silver City (CAN).  This group has now enlarged to provide oversight and resources for an Elder Discussion Circle, Untold Stories, Senior Housing Issues, and a mentorship program in the elementary schools.  Our RSVP program also created the Citizen Corps Council of Grant County whose mission is citizen emergency preparedness. These group has provided training and certification to over 20 CERT graduates who stand ready to provide preparedness training and outreach as well as emergency response to large disasters and other crisis events.

So, if you have a desire to “give back to the community,” we can help you find a place to do it.  We will either find you a volunteer position of your own choosing within a formal organization, or we will help you develop a community service project of your own vision and specifications.
