Thank you for your interest in the Senior Olympics, this program has been very special and dear to me since I first learned about it in 1995 when I was a volunteer at the Mimbres Senior Center.

I volunteered as a kitchen helper when my husband and I moved to the Mimbres valley, I helped in the kitchen for one and a half years, then was hired as a substitute cook and van driver. One year later I took over the position of the site manager and retired 10 years later in Sept. 2004 ,  then in 1989 I took up the challenge of helping with the Senior Olympic program which soon developed into being the Grant County Senior Olympic coordinator…I was excited!

I introduced the air gun events to Grant County which I am proud of. Slow but sure with the help of the event managers there is an increase in the numbers of new senior Olympians each year.  You have helped put “Grant County on the map!”

My first love for the Senior Olympics continued throughout the years. This program has helped to build the self esteem of everyone who participated in sports ,there was and still is a venue for everyone , it didn’t matter if it was walking ,throwing softballs, to running track, swimming,  archery, air guns, and many, many sports to numerous to mention. I have made many wonderful friends over the years, but the best part of our friendship is in “seeing them come to life” and taking pride in what they do.

I participate in air gun events, shooting both rifle and pistol. When I first started I played shuffle board and 8-ball pool, when I got to the state level I quickly found out how much I had to learn!

I am a certified Hunter Education Instructor, helping to teach classes in Silver City and the Mimbres, certified rifle instructor, Range safety officer N.R.A., a chief range safety officer HED, teamed up with Bob Messner doing the air gun safety classes at the senior treks and work with him as a coach for the air gun shooting sports program here in Silver City. I had been the secretary for the High Desert Sportsmen’s Club for five years which helps promote shooting sports for the seniors and 4-H.

I am proud and honored to have been chosen to represent Grant County, to receive the Spirit award and to attend the banquet. The real high light of summer games was when I was chosen to run with the torch! I’ll never forget the pride I felt at that time. I still get choked up when I relive that moment!

My hobbies include music; I play the guitar and dulcimer, quilting and sports, especially shooting.  I sing in the Church choir, and enjoy working for the Lord.

I retired in 2007 as the Grant County Senior Olympic Coordinator handing the reigns to Jean Hoffman I know she will do a terrific job. I am by no means finished as I am still the event manager for the air gun program and will help however I can. Thank You, Cici for all you have done for all of us.

Sincerely,

Beverly Moss
